ACTIVITIES
On this page, you will find a whole range of activities to suit all ages, both onsite and offsite. Every day can be filled with awe.
On site, our summer holidays activity programme includes bible studies, coffee mornings, campfires, games and tournaments. Outside the summer holidays the programme is limited and does not include kids club.
Onsite activities are planned on a weekly basis and advertised on our facebook page.
ONSITE AND NEAR BY
Bikes: There are various models for hire from £5-£15/day or £20 – £50/week -good quality 16”, 20” and 24” wheeled children’s
bikes, mountain bikes for teenagers/adults to get about the park and higher spec mountain bikes suitable for longer trips off the
park. Reservation in advance advisable during peak season
Kayaks/canoes: Hire prices will be determined before 15 May 24. These may be hired at own risk from 25 May to end of October but only in suitable weather conditions only with permission of management and subject to adult supervision. We require an adult to watch from the shore at all times. Please bear in mind that we are open to the prevailing wind, so it needs to be a calm day.
Activities: During summer holidays we endeavour to provide activities (pool and table tennis competition, sometimes kids clubs for younger children etc) and all the family (ceilidh’s, quizzes etc). Nearly all are free (and voluntary) for guests. We also have Christian worship services on Sunday, bible studies and mid-week devotions – all welcome. During the week of 6 to 13 July 24 Scripture Union (SU) will be leading a holiday club for children.
Sports facilities on site: There is a games hall currently containing table tennis, table football, and pool tables. Outside there is a putting green, tennis court, small football pitch and a small bowling green. Tennis rackets, lawn bowls, table tennis bats, pool cues, putters and balls (for each activity) can be borrowed free of charge from reception. There is a childrens’ playpark and basket swing on the front green.
Fishing is not easy at Port Ban due to lack of a jetty and slipway, presence of seaweed and rocks and but is possible if you find the right place and use light tackle. For kids and crab fishing the rock pools are guaranteed success!
Other activities that you can choose to organise/undertake include: Swimming in the sea; fishing in the sea; bird watching; walking along the coast, in the countryside, and up the forestry tracks; boating (if you bring your own).
CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP
The Port Bàn Christian Fellowship is a non-denominational, evangelical, fellowship of Christians originally established by David and Joan Sheldrick in the 1960’s at Port Bàn Holiday Park, Kilberry, Argyll, Scotland.
We meet from March to October each year. The usual weekly rhythm is:
Sunday – 11:00 Worship Service in the Games Hall.
Monday – 10:30 short devotions in Café
Tuesday – 20:00 Bible Study, normally in Café
Wednesday – 10:30 short devotions in Café
Thursday – 8:30 am Prayer Wall in Hall
Friday – 10:30 short devotions in Café
In school holidays and and bank holiday weekends, activities are organised during the Sunday meetings for children.

BEACHES
On Site
There are several small beaches on site suitable for sandcastles, crab fishing, small boat launches and campfires.
Off site
There are various sandy beaches in the area. Ask at reception for further details.
SAILING FORTNIGHT
27th July to 10th August 2024
Arriving on site during the last full weekend of July friends and likeminded families have flocked to Port Bàn Holiday Park to meet up and race their Mirror, Enterprise, Topper and many other dinghies. 2023 was the 45th year with many of the children from all those years ago now being the parents who are watching their own children sailing their boats!
At 10am, Monday through Friday, the race starts with everyone off the line together heading to round the islands which lie approximately 1.5 miles north of the site. With many trophies being hotly contested the only real worry is who will be winning the “Broken Centreboard.”
If you have a dinghy then why not come along and join in?
The AGM will take place at 19.00 on the Sunday night before the fun starts, at one of the caravans unless it’s raining in which case we’ll meet in the games hall.
OFF SITE
Bike Routes
Port Ban is tucked away in the heart of Argyll, along the wild and remote western coastline of the Knapdale Peninsula, only 100 miles (2.5hr drive) from Glasgow – on the incredibly beautiful National Cycle Route 78 that runs between Oban and Campbeltown.
There are some great bike routes locally whether on road or in the forests. Take a look at the page about cycling routes nearby and perhaps even the Forestry Commission leaflet about their trails for more information.

LOCHGILPHEAD GOLF COURSE A par 64 the course was designed by Dr I.McCammond. The course offers a variety of challenges and as such is an excellent test of golf. If you play during the week then no booking is required although the number of tee times available at the weekend is varied. Clubhouse facilities include changing rooms. Explore Argyll
Caledonian MacBrayne Ferries for island hopping.
Wildlife Cruises depart daily with the opportunity to see minke whales, bottlenose dolphins, basking shark and porpoise and visit the Corryvreckan Whirlpool. Craignish Cruises, Venture West and Sea-fari all offer regular trips.
Isle of Gigha is a small island off the west coast of Kintyre, accessible by roll-on, roll-off ferry from Tayinloan, has been transformed by a community buy-out in 2002. This beautiful island
boasts abundant wildlife, beautiful beaches
and the renowned Achamore Gardens
(50acres+).
The Kilberry Inn is an award-winning restaurant which holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, is recognised in the Good Hotel Guide and offers ‘really tasty, uncomplicated food in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere’.
Kilmartin House Museum A small and wonderful local museum with some great and varied archaelogical exhibits (some interactive for children) and an award winning café and shop. Great for a wet afternoon.
Portavadie is a village on the shores of Loch Fyne on the coast of the Cowal peninsula, in Argyll and Bute, West of Scotland. Enjoy nice food, beautiful views and a year round spa with a naturally heated outdoor Jacuzzi.
